After moving to New Romney 2 years ago with my wife and 2 of our 3 children (I say ‘children’ but they are all well past children now!!) I felt it was about time I got back into amateur dramatics. Having run my own Production company in London, been a member of 5 Am Dram groups and been involved in over 50 productions, I wanted to be a member of a local group and share my skills and experiences. I made some enquiries and found there was no such group in New Romney so, me being me, I thought I would form one myself.
In October 2017 I wrote out on The Real Marsh Watch (Facebook) to see if anyone would be interested and to my surprise and delight I discovered there were at least 40 like-minded individuals all wanting to help or be involved with such a group.
On 2nd November 2017 we had our first get-together for anyone interested. 15 people turned up to offer their support with not only performing but administration, marketing, stage and set building, sound, music and web design and I was so impressed with all the positive feedback. It was suggested that our first production should be a Pantomime which I agreed with but being November, it seemed a bit too close to Christmas to allow us time for a Christmas Panto, so I suggested a special Easter Panto. This was agreed and I got down to writing our first pantomime.
I have taken on the role of Producer and Director and, with the help and support of our cast and the residents and businesses of New Romney, we should have a great and successful show.
